The Sîngerei raion is a raion in the Republic of Moldova . The capital of the Rajons is Singerei .
geography
The Rajon is located in the northern half of the country. Sîngerei borders on the Rajons Drochia , Făleşti , Floreşti , Rîşcani , Teleneşti and Ungheni as well as the municipality of Bălți .
In addition to the capital, Biruința has city rights, the rest of the area of the Rajons is divided into rural communities.
history
The Sîngerei Rajon has existed since 2003. Until February 2003, the area belonged to the now dissolved Bălți District (Județul Bălți).
population
Population development
In 1959 there were 66,693 inhabitants in the area of today's Rajons. In the following decades the number of inhabitants increased steadily: from 83,036 in 1970 to 88,844 in 1979 to 89,929 in 1989. By 2004, as in the whole of Moldova, the population of the raion fell, which was 87,153 in that year. In 2014 it was 79,814.
Ethnic groups
According to the 2004 census, the Moldovans make up the proportionately largest ethnic group in the Sîngerei Rajon with 85.1%, followed by the Ukrainians with 9.7%, the Russians with 3.5%, the Romanians with 1.3% and the Gagauz with 0 ,1 %.
