The Făleşti Raion is a raion in the Republic of Moldova . The capital of the Rajons is Fălești .

geography

The Rajon is located in the west of the country on the border with Romania along the Prut River . Fălești borders the Glodeni , Rîșcani , Sîngerei and Ungheni Rajons and the Bălți Municipality .

history

The Făleşti Rajon has existed since 2003. Until February 2003, the area belonged to the now dissolved Bălți District (Județul Bălți).

population

Population development

1959 lived in the area of ​​today's Rajons 81,270 inhabitants. Over the next twenty years, the population increased to 95,143 in 1970 and 95,865 in 1979. While the number of inhabitants rose nationwide until the 1989 census, it fell to 94,014 in Făleşti Raion. Following the national trend, the population of the Rajon fell to 90,320 by 2004. In 2014 it was 78,258.

Ethnic groups

According to the 2004 census, the Moldovans make up the proportionately largest ethnic group in the Făleşti Rajon with 84.0%, followed by the Ukrainians with 11.9%. Smaller minorities are the Russians with 3.4% and the Romanians with 0.3%.
