The Strășeni Rajon is a Rajon in the Republic of Moldova . The capital of the Rajons is Strășeni .

geography

The Rajon is located in the center of the country. The neighboring districts are Călărași , Criuleni , Hîncești Ialoveni , Nisporeni and Orhei and the municipality of Chișinău .

In addition to the capital, Bucovăț has the town charter , the rest of the area of ​​the Rajons is distributed to rural communities. The Codrii nature reserve near Lozova was founded in 1971 and is the oldest nature reserve in Moldova.

history

The Rajon Strășeni has existed since 2003. Until February 2003, the area belonged to the now dissolved district of Chișinău (Județul Chișinău) together with today's Anenii Noi , Criuleni and Ialoveni Rajons .

Population development

1959 lived in the area of ​​today's Rajons 75,592 inhabitants. In the following decades the number of inhabitants increased steadily: from 85,376 in 1970 to 88,723 in 1979 to 92,086 in 1989. By 2004, as in the whole of Moldova, the population of the Rajon fell, which was 88,900 in that year. By 2014 it continued to fall to 82,675.

Ethnic groups

According to the 2004 census, the Moldovans make up by far the largest ethnic group with 93.8%, while 75.8% of the nationwide describe themselves as Moldovans. The national minorities in Strășeni Rajon are the Romanians with 2.9%, the Russians with 1.8%, the Ukrainians with 1.1% and the Gagauz and Bulgarians with 0.1% each.

Culture and sights

The Strășeni radio mast is the tallest structure in Moldova in the Strășeni district .

Founded at the beginning of the 15th century, the Căpriana Monastery is one of the oldest in Moldova. The monastery, originally built of wood, received a stone church for the first time under the voivode Ștefan cel Mare . Closed for decades during the communist era, it was extensively restored between 2003 and 2005.
