The Cimișlia Raion is a raion in the Republic of Moldova . The capital of the Rajons is Cimișlia .

geography

The Cimișlia Rajon is located in the southern half of the country and has a narrow section of the border with Ukraine . The Jalpuch River has its source in the Rajons area . Within Moldova of cimişlia district borders the Rajons Basarabeasca , Căuşeni , Hînceşti , Ialoveni and Leova and to the Autonomous Region of Gagauzia .

history

The Rajon Cimişlia has existed in its current borders since 2003. Until February 2003, the area belonged to the now-dissolved Lăpuşna district (Județul Lăpuşna) together with today's Basarabeasca, Hînceşti and Leova districts. Even earlier - from 1918 to 1940 - Cimișlia was part of the Romanian Tighina County (Județul Tighina).

Population development

1959 lived in the area of ​​today's Rajons 49,624 inhabitants. In the following twenty years the population increased and was 63,048 in 1970 and 65,667 in 1979. While the number of inhabitants rose nationwide until the 1989 census, it fell slightly to 65,267 in Cimișlia Raion. Following the national trend, the population of the Rajon fell to 60,925 by 2004. In 2014 it was 49,299.

Ethnic groups

According to the 2004 census, the Moldovans make up the proportionately largest ethnic group in Cimislia Raion with 86.9%, followed by the Ukrainians with 5.5%, the Russians with 3.9% and the Bulgarians with 2.2%. Smaller minorities are the Gagauz and Romanians with 0.5% each.
