The Jalpuch ( Romanian Ialpug ; Russian Ялпуг / Jalpug ) is a river in the south of the Republic of Moldova and in the southwest of Ukraine .
The Jalpuch rises in Moldova, southwest of the capital Chișinău . It flows in a southerly direction parallel to the Prut and passes among others the Moldovan villages Comrat , Congaz and Taraclia . In Budschak , near the Ukrainian city of Bolhrad, it flows into the 50-kilometer-long, but only 149-square-kilometer Jalpuhsee ( Ukrainian Ялпуг , Jalpuh or Ялпух , Jalpuch ). This drains over the lake Kuhurluj into the lower Danube .
Larger cities on the river are Comrat , the capital of Gagauzia , and Bolhrad am Jalpuhsee.
