The Căușeni Raion is a raion in the Republic of Moldova . The capital of the Rajons is Căușeni .
geography
The Rajon is located in the southeast of the country on the border with Ukraine . Căușeni borders on the municipality of Tighina and the breakaway region of Transnistria on the other side of the Dniester River , as well as the Anenii Noi , Cimișlia , Ialoveni and Ștefan Vodă Rajons .
In addition to the capital, Căinari has town charter , the rest of the area of the Rajons is distributed among rural communities ( communes ): Baccealia, Baimaclia, Chircăieşti, Chircăieştii Noi, Chițcani , Ciufleşti, Cârnățeni, Cârnățenii Noi ,ârnățenii Noi, Cârlemeni Do, Fancașalia , Gâsca, Grădinița, Grigorievca, Hagimus, Opaci, Pervomaisc, Plop-Știubei, Săiți, Sălcuța, Taraclia, Tănătari, Tănătarii Noi, Tocuz, Ucrainca, Ursoaia and Zaim.
The village of Chițcani officially belongs to the Căușeni Rajon, but is under the control of Transnistria.
history
The Căușeni Rajon has existed since 2003. Until February 2003, the area belonged to the now dissolved Tighina District (Județul Tighina) together with the city of Tighina and today's Rajon Ștefan Vodă.
population
Population development
1959 lived in the area of today's Rajons 73,696 inhabitants. In the following decades the number of inhabitants increased steadily: from 89,073 in 1970 to 93,656 in 1979 to 96,467 in 1989. By 2004, as in the whole of Moldova, the population of the Rajon fell, which was 90,612 in that year. In 2014 it was 81,185.
Ethnic groups
According to the 2004 census, Moldovans make up the proportionately largest ethnic group in Căușeni Raion with 87.7%, followed by Russians with 4.2%, Romanians with 3.1%, Ukrainians with 2.7%, and Bulgarians with 1 , 2% and the Gagauz with 0.7%.
