The rezina district is a Raion in the Republic of Moldova . The capital of the Rajons is Rezina .

geography

The Rajon is located in the east of the country on the Dniester River . It borders on the Orhei , Șoldăneşti and Teleneşti Rajons and the breakaway region of Transnistria . The landscape is mostly flat and hilly with average heights between 200 and 250 meters. The two side valleys of the Dniester near the monasteries Saharna and Țipova , which have been declared landscape protection areas, are an ecological specialty .

history

The Rezina Rajon has existed since 2003. Until February 2003, the area belonged to the now dissolved Orhei District (Județul Orhei).

population

Population development

1959 lived in the area of ​​today's Rajons 50,586 inhabitants. By 1970 the population had increased to 56,020. In the following decades, however, the population fell, from 55,027 in 1979 to 54,817 in 1989. At the 2004 census, only 48,105 people lived in Rezina Rajon, which is fewer than in 1959. In 2014 it was 42,486.

Ethnic groups

According to the 2004 census, the Moldovans make up by far the largest ethnic group with 93.0%, while 75.8% of the nationwide describe themselves as Moldovans. The national minorities in the Rezina district are the Ukrainians with 3.5%, the Russians with 2.3%, the Romanians with 0.8% and the Gagauz and Bulgarians with 0.1% each.
