The Teleneşti District is a Raion in the Republic of Moldova . The capital of the Rajons is Teleneşti .
geography
The Rajon is located in the center of the country. The neighboring districts are Călăraşi , Floreşti , Orhei , Rezina , Sîngerei , Șoldăneşti and Ungheni .
history
Teleneşti Rajon has existed since 2003. Until February 2003, the area belonged to the now dissolved Orhei District (Județul Orhei).
population
Population development
1959 lived in the area of today's Rajons 61,794 inhabitants. By 1970 the population had increased to 76,349. By 1979 the number of inhabitants fell to 74,987 and remained almost constant until 1989 at 74,417. By 2004, as in the rest of Moldova, the population of the raion decreased, which was 70,126 in that year. In 2014 it was 61,144.
Ethnic groups
According to the 2004 census, the Moldovans make up by far the largest ethnic group with 96.0%, while 75.8% of the nationwide describe themselves as Moldovans. The national minorities in Teleneşti Rajon are the Ukrainians with 1.3%, the Romanians with 1.8% and the Russians with 0.8%.
