Vyšné Nemecké (German Oberdeutschdorf , Hungarian Felsőnémeti , Ukrainian Вишнє Німецьке Wyschnje Nimezke ) is a small community in the far east of Slovakia .
geography
The community is located on the slope of Vihorlat in the eastern Slovak lowlands , right on the border with Ukraine ( Zakarpattia Oblast ). The Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod is 6 km to the east, the closest Slovak city is Sobrance , 12 km to the northwest.
In addition to the main town Vyšné Nemecké, the district Močidlá also belongs to the municipality.
history
The place was founded in the 13th century by German settlers (see Deutsche Ostsiedlung ) and was mentioned for the first time in 1262. The Slovak place name (Nemecké = German) also refers to the German settlers. The place in Ung County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia , confirmed by the Treaty of Trianon (1920). 1939-1945 he was once again part of Hungary as a result of the Slovak-Hungarian War .

There is a Greek Catholic Church of St. Michael in the village from 1810.
traffic
The municipality is known for its location at the largest border crossing between Slovakia and the Ukraine Vyšné Nemecké – Uschgorod, where the Slovak state road 19 and the Ukrainian M 08 - which after Uzhgorod turn into the M 06 (all part of the E 50 / E 58 ) opens - meet. After the Schengen expansion at the end of 2007, this border crossing is on the EU's external border.
