Ubľa ( Russian Вубля / Wublja ; Hungarian Ugar - until 1902 and 1939 to 1945 Ublya ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 773 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
geography
The municipality is located in the valley of the Ublianka River , between the Bukovské vrchy Mountains and the Beskydské Predhorie foothills , about 3 km from the border with Ukraine and about 25 km from Snina and Sobrance .
The border crossing Ubľa- Malyj Beresnyj (Малий Березний) near Velykyj Beresnyj (Великий Березний) is southeast of the place.
history
Ubľa was first mentioned in writing in 1567 as Oblia and at that time belonged to the manor of Humenné . From the 17th to the 19th century the village was owned by the Szirmay , Dernáth , Schmidegh and 1846 Lobkovitz families . In 1828 there were 126 inhabitants and 943 inhabitants who were employed in forestry, animal husbandry and as a manufacturer of unfired bricks and basket makers.
Until 1918, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. From 1939 to 1944 the place belonged to Hungary as Ublya after the Slovak-Hungarian War .

According to the 2011 census, 808 inhabitants lived in Ubľa, including 485 Slovaks, 223 Russians, 60 Ukrainians, 11 Roma, seven Czechs and one German and one Magyar. 20 residents did not provide any information. 420 residents professed to the Orthodox Church, 308 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 34 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, six residents to the Evangelical Church AB and two residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses. 15 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 23 residents has not been determined.
