Runina , Russian Руніна / Runina (Hungarian Juhászlak - until 1902 and 1939-44 Runyina ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 77 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), about 28 km east of Snina , a few kilometers from the Polish border. The village is located in the middle of the Bukovské vrchy Mountains at an altitude of 550 m nm and at the same time in the Poloniny National Park . In 2001, 62 of the 91 inhabitants were Russians, 23 Ukrainians and 6 Slovaks, and all of the inhabitants professed to be part of the Orthodox Church. In the 2011 census, 89% of the population said Russian was their mother tongue.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1569 as Ronua and was in the dominion of Humenné , whose ruler was the Drugeth family . In 1828 there are 23 houses and 184 inhabitants. Until 1918 it belonged to Semplin County in the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia .
After the occupation in the Slovak-Hungarian War in 1939, Runina was annexed to Hungary as Runyina until 1944 , since then the place has been part of Czechoslovakia again and, since 1993, of the newly formed Slovakia .
