Ruský Potok ( Russian Руський Потiк / Ruskyj Potik ; Hungarian Oroszpatak ) is a municipality in Okres Snina ( Prešovský kraj ) in the far east of Slovakia with 136 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the traditional Zemplín landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in a small basin within the Bukovské vrchy Mountains , near the borders with Poland and Ukraine . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 443 m nm and is 31 kilometers away from Snina .
Neighboring communities are Runina in the north, Zboj in the east, Uličské Krivé in the south-east, Kolbasov in the south and south-west and Topoľa in the west.
history
The place arose in the 16th century under Wallachian law on the territory of Humenné and was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1598. Ruský Potok was a small village, in 1720 there were six inhabited households, plus a water mill. In 1787 the owners came from the Mariássy family , and in the 19th century from the Dessewffy family . In 1828 there were 40 houses and 299 inhabitants.
Until 1918, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. As a result of the Slovak-Hungarian War , the village belonged again to Hungary from 1939 to 1944.
population
According to the 2011 census, 134 people lived in Ruský Potok, of which (according to national classification) 69 Russians , 62 Slovaks and two Ukrainians . One resident did not provide any information about nationality. However, 128 residents (95.5%) stated Russian as their mother tongue. This made Ruský Potok the Slovak municipality with the highest proportion of Russian speakers.
130 residents professed the Orthodox Church and one resident professed a different denomination. Two residents were non-denominational and one resident's denomination has not been determined.
Architectural monuments
- Greek-Catholic two-tower wooden church Archangel Michael in Baroque style from 1740, a national cultural monument, supplemented by a free-standing wooden bell tower in 1956. The iconostasis dates from the 18th century, and liturgical books from the 17th century in Cyrillic, which were printed in Lviv and other Ukrainian cities today , are valuable .
