The Cesta I. triedy 9 ( Slovak for '1st order street 9'), I / 9 for short , is a 1st order street in Slovakia . It begins on the Czech border at Drietoma and then runs eastwards past the city of Trenčín and then through Bánovce nad Bebravou , Nováky and Prievidza . About halfway between Prievidza and Handlová, it bends south and ends in Ladomerská Vieska near Žiar nad Hronom . From Drietoma to Chocholná it is part of the E 50 , from Chocholná to the north of Žiar nad Hronom it is part of the E 572 .

The I / 9 was built on August 1, 2015 from a section of the 1st order 50 , which was also completely closed.

course

Trenčiansky kraj

The I / 9 begins as a continuation of the Czech Silnice I / 50 at the Drietoma - Starý Hrozenkov border crossing in the White Carpathians on the border with the Czech Republic. It crosses the Waag River and touches the city of Trenčín before crossing the Inowetz and entering the wider Neutra Valley . After the towns of Bánovce nad Bebravou and Nováky , it passes through the historic Hauerland in the Hornonitrianska kotlina basin , past the towns of Prievidza and Handlová , before leaving Trenčiansky kraj in the Vogelgebirge .

Banskobystrický kraj

After the Vogel Mountains, the road enters the Žiarska kotlina basin , passes through the town of Žiar nad Hronom and ends behind the bridge over the Hron in Ladomerská Vieska .

State of development

I / 9 is almost completely a two-lane, non-directional street. The exception is the nine-kilometer section between Nováky and Prievidza, where the I / 9, together with the I / 64, has been developed as a four-lane, separate road. In the long term, the road between Chocholná and Žiar nad Hronom is to be replaced by the R2 expressway , with a two-lane section at Žiar nad Hronom already being implemented. In October 2016 the Bánovce nad Bebravou bypass, initially only two lanes, was opened to traffic.
