The Cesta I. triedy 72 ( Slovak for '1st order street 72'), I / 72 for short , is a 1st order street in Slovakia . It crosses the middle of the country through two large mountains - the Slovak Ore Mountains and the Low Tatras . There are only two medium- sized towns, Rimavská Sobota and Brezno . Before 2008, the part north of Podbrezová was the entire I / 72 - the Rimavská Sobota – Tisovec section was part of the 2nd order 531 and the Tisovec – Brezno part of the 2nd order 530.

course

The I / 72 begins at a cross near Rimavská Sobota in the Gemer countryside and first goes up through the Rimava valley; through several smaller communities it reaches the small towns of Hnúšťa and Tisovec . At Tisovec it touches the Muránska planina national park and crosses the Zbojská pass ( 725  m nm ); it then reaches the middle town of Brezno on the Hron (Gran) river in the Horehronie region (Upper Grantal).

In the Brezno – Podbrezová section, it shares the route with the I / 66 . After Podbrezová, the road to the Čertovica pass begins . Along this route there are branches to the recreational areas on the southern slope of the Low Tatras; In this area are also the four two-thousand-meter peaks of the Low Tatras: the highest Ďumbier , then Štiavnica , Chopok and Dereše . The road crosses the Čertovica pass at an altitude of 1232  m nm and is considered to be one of the highest passable passes in Slovakia. After the pass there is only a descent to the Podtatranská kotlina basin and shortly after the bridge over the Waag the road joins the I / 18 .
