Course of the road

The Cesta I. triedy 11 ( Slovak for '1st order street 11'), I / 11 for short , is a 1st order street in northern Slovakia . It leads through the Kysuca Valley from the Czech border ( Jablunkapass ), where it is the continuation of the Czech Silnice I / 11 coming from Prague , through Čadca and Kysucké Nové Mesto to the transport hub and regional capital Žilina . The double- track Žilina – Bohumín railway runs alongside the road .

As part of the European roads , it is part of the E75 . Due to heavy traffic , it is to be replaced by the D3 motorway ; In December 2017, only the four-lane connecting line from the Žilina-sever junction and on to Bratislava and the two-lane bypass of Čadca were in operation. The upgraded line between Čadca and Svrčinovec is expected to be under construction until 2020. At Svrčinovec the traffic volume was estimated at 30,000 vehicles / 24 hours in 2009; A major part of this are the trucks to and from the automobile plants in Žilina ( Kia Motors ) and Nošovice ( Hyundai ) in the Czech Republic .

history

In the age of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy , today's road was part of a Reichsstraße , which led from Diosek via Sillein to Jablunkau and continued from Jablunkau as the Teschen -Jablunkauer Reichsstraße. In 1849, after the suppression of the Hungarian Revolution , Austrian civil engineers came to systematically expand the newly established imperial roads.
