Mýto pod Ďumbierom (until 1927 Slovak "Mýto"; German Mauth , Hungarian Vámos - until 1888 Mitó ) is a place and a municipality in Okres Brezno ( Banskobystrický kraj ) in the middle of Slovakia , with 528 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) .
geography
The municipality is located in the eastern part of the Horehronie region (Upper Grantal) on the stream Štiavnička . The municipality is located in the foothills of the Low Tatras below the mountain Ďumbier ( 2046 m nm ), the highest point of the Low Tatras. In addition to the valley directed towards Podbrezová , there are Pohansko passes ( 733 m nm ) southeast of the town to the town of Brezno and Čertovica ( 1232 m nm ) further up the valley into the Liptov region . The center of the village is 10 kilometers from Brezno and 42 kilometers from Banská Bystrica .
history
The place was founded in the 15th century on a road to the Čertovica saddle and was subject to the town of Briesen. A toll station was located here. In addition, it was a residence of local miners who worked on a gold panning or in a coal distillery. It was not until the 17th century that the place achieved independence.
The population reached its peak in 1940 with around 1,200 inhabitants, today a little more than 500 inhabitants live in the municipality.
