Pohorelá (German Pohorella , Hungarian since 1913 Koháryháza , 1907-13 Garamkohó , until 1907 Pohorella ) is a municipality in Okres Brezno within the Banskobystrický kraj in Slovakia with about 2400 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located in the Horehronie region ("Upper Grantal") and is on the right-hand side of the Hron by the Pohorelka and Kompanica streams . To the north of the village the Low Tatras rises under the Orlova hoľa mountain ( 1840 m nm ), on the other side south of the river it is the Muránska planina . Pohorelá is 32 kilometers from Brezno and 48 kilometers from Poprad .
history
The place was created in the 17th century by Wallachian colonization on the estate of the Muráň castle and is mentioned for the first time in 1612. Previously there is no evidence of permanent settlement. The inhabitants were engaged in cattle and sheep breeding, forestry and charcoal making. At the end of the 18th century, an ironworks and a hammer mill were built in what is now Pohorelská Maša.
