Vaľkovňa (German Ferdinandsthal or Ober Švábolka , Hungarian Nándorvölgy ) is a municipality in central Slovakia .
It is located in the Horehronské podolie basin in the Hron river valley at the foot of the Low Tatras and the Slovak Ore Mountains and is about 35 km from Brezno .
Parts of the community were first mentioned in writing in 1612; the actual parish arose in the 18th and 19th centuries around an iron hammer, which had been built on the parish corridor of Šumiac , and officially remained part of this parish until 1954. The name derives from a sheet metal smelter that was built here in 1834.
In addition to the main town, Nová Maša (German Ferdinandshütte ), Švábolka and Zlatno also belong to the municipality.
