Crown of Empress Farah Pahlavi.

The crown of Empress Farah Pahlavi was made for the Empress on the occasion of the coronation of the Shah of Iran Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and his wife Farah Pahlavi .

As a sign of emancipation in his country, Mohammad Reza had decided that he would also crown his third wife Farah Pahlavi at his coronation, which was a novelty in the history of Persia . The Parisian jewelers Van Cleef & Arpels were awarded the contract. Since the gemstones to be used for the crown, which came from the imperial treasury, could not be taken out of the country by law, the jewelers traveled to Iran to manufacture the crown there.

The crown is made of white gold , 1,469 diamonds , 36 emeralds , 36 rubies , two spinels of 83 carats and 105 pearls , the largest of which are over 2 cm long. The crown is 16 cm high and 19 cm in diameter. It weighs 1600 g.

The crown circlet is composed of two diamond-set bands, between which a cross of diamonds , a ruby and an emerald appears alternately . Six large rosette-like shapes rise above the hoop, those on the front slightly higher than the four on the sides, which in turn are higher than those on the back. In the middle, they have large gemstones surrounded by diamonds. The shape on the front has a hexagonal emerald that is said to weigh 150 carats. From the rosettes, seven diamond rosettes with precious stones in the middle alternate with five large teardrop-shaped pearls. Between the large rosettes and the circlet there are two parallel bands that run in waves around the crown. They are covered with diamonds. In different places they also have protruding pearls of different sizes. The inside of the crown consists of a hood made of dark green velvet .

On his birthday on October 26, 1967 , the Shah first crowned himself. Then he ceremoniously placed her crown on his wife's head. The crown is now in the Crown Jewel Museum in the National Bank in Tehran .
