Polomka (until 1927 also "Polonka" in Slovak; Garamszécs in Hungarian - until 1902 Polonka ) is a municipality in central Slovakia . It is located in the upper Grantal at the foot of the Low Tatras and Muránska planina , 19 km from Brezno .
The place was founded probably as early as the 14th century and belonged to the lordship of Muráň Castle . The first written mention, however, comes from the year 1525. In the later Middle Ages gold, silver and iron ore were mined. Later the inhabitants lived from sheep farming and forestry.
Sights include the Roman Catholic Church of John the Baptist from 1669 and the Chapel of John of Nepomuk from 1828. The place is also a starting point for hikes in the surrounding mountains.
The district of Hámor also belongs to the municipality .
