Lom nad Rimavicou (until 1926 Slovak "Forgáčka" or "Lôm"; Hungarian Forgáchfalva ) is a municipality in Okres Brezno within the Banskobystrický kraj in Slovakia with about 300 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located in the far west of the Slovak Ore Mountains , more precisely, at its lower part Veporské vrchy . At the same time it touches the Poľana in the west. It is located northwest of the point where the Okresy Brezno , Detva and Poltár meet. With a height of 1015 m nm in the center of the village, it is one of the highest municipalities in Slovakia; only in the Low or High Tatras can higher-lying villages be found. Three rivers arise in the immediate vicinity: the eponymous Rimavica , the Slatina and the Ipeľ . Lom nad Rimavicou is 15 kilometers from Hriňová and 25 kilometers from Brezno , with the connection to both cities via the national road II / 529.
Administratively, the municipality is divided into parts of the municipality Lom nad Rimavicou and Javorina.
history
The place arose at the end of the 18th century in the area of the municipality of Kokava nad Rimavicou (separated in 1786). It is mentioned in 1799 as Forgáczfalva , 1802 as Lom , 1808 as Forgáčka . The place was founded by the family named Forgách . In the 19th century there was a glassworks and paper mill in the village, and a saw was added in the early 20th century. In 1828 there were 58 houses in Lom nad Rimavicou and had 473 inhabitants who were engaged in forestry, cattle breeding and hauling. In 1882 a small place called Ďurkovka was incorporated, and in 1913 the neighboring municipality of Drábsko became part of the municipality, but has been independent again since 1926.
Until 1918 the place was in Gemer and Kleinhont County in the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. During the Slovak National Uprising in World War II, there was a field hospital for partisans in the place.
