Čierny Balog (until 1927 Slovak "Balog" or "Čierny Hronec", 1948–1951 "Čierny Blh"; German Schwarzwasser , Hungarian Feketebalog ) is a municipality in central Slovakia . It is located in the valley of the Čierny Hron River at the foot of the Veporské vrchy Mountains, ten kilometers from Brezno .
The municipality was established in 1887 through the union of the 13 villages Balog, Dobroč, Dolina , Fajtov, Jánošovka, Jergov , Komov, Krám, Látky , Medveďov, Pusté, Vydrovo and Závodie (mentioned as Feketebalog in 1888). The villages were already closely connected with the establishment of the Königliche Schwarzwasser Holzhandlung of the Royal Bergkammer in the 16th century (first documented mention in 1564). In 1607 Krám was mentioned for the first time as a settlement. The construction of the Schwarzgranbahn resulted in an economic boom in the town. The operation of the railway was stopped in 1982 and resumed as a museum railway in 1993. During the Second World War , the site was one of the centers of the Slovak National Uprising .
Today, in addition to the main town, the municipality includes the official parts of Dobroč , Fajtov , Jánošovka , Komov , Krám , Medveďov , Pusté and Vydrovo .
