history

Settlement of the municipality goes back to Roman times.

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in a document from King Sigismund in 1424 as Jechene ; possibly a settlement of the same name was mentioned as early as 1250. The name is derived from the Slovak word jaseň (German ash ). Jasenie was a mining village that belonged to the territory of Liptsch Castle ; Precious metals were mined here up to the 16th century, the mines were owned by the Neusohl entrepreneurs. From the 17th to the 19th century there was an iron hammer mill that belonged to the Bergkammer. In 1828 there were 102 houses and 785 residents who were employed as carters, shepherds and workers in local businesses, and in the 19th and 20th centuries crochet lace was widespread. There was a glassworks in Kramlište in the 19th century.

Until 1918 the place in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia. A steam sawmill worked here in the interwar period. The inhabitants took part in the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) and there was brisk partisan activity in the valleys.
