Ráztoka (Hungarian Rásztó - until 1888 Rásztoka ) is a small municipality in the center of Slovakia with 273 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Brezno , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj and is part of the traditional landscape Horehronie .

geography

The municipality is located in the Horehronské podolie valley in the valley of the Ráztoka brook , surrounded by the southern foothills of the Low Tatras . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 479  m nm and is 21 kilometers from Brezno and 23 kilometers from Banská Bystrica .

Neighboring communities are Jasenie in the north, Nemecká in the east and south, very briefly Brusno in the southwest and Pohronský Bukovec in the west.

history

The place originated in the 14th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1424 as Razthoka . At that time it was part of the estate of Liptsch Castle and was also settled by Wallachians in the 15th century as part of the Wallachian colonization. In 1828 there were 63 houses and 485 inhabitants who lived from agriculture and sheep farming, but also from the manufacture of wooden dishes and peddlers. In the 19th century, many residents were also employed in the Podbrezová steelworks .

Until 1918 the place in Sohl County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, Ráztoka had 291 inhabitants, of which 275 were Slovaks, one Czech and one inhabitant of another ethnic group. 14 residents gave no information in this regard. 226 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, two residents supported the Evangelical Church AB; four residents professed a different denomination. 40 residents had no denomination and 19 residents had no denomination.
