Details
A start of the trail in Portugal at Cape St. Vincent is planned. For the time being, it begins in Santiago de Compostela and in parts leads along old Jacob's pilgrimage routes . In Western Europe, it is mostly given the additional designation Atlantic - Ardennes - Bohemian Forest , as a route from the Atlantic over the Ardennes to the Bohemian Forest used to be marked.
The 250-kilometer route in the Saxon Ore Mountains runs from Mühlleithen via Carlsfeld , Wildenthal , Auersberg , Sosa , Jägerhaus , Lauter , Schwarzenberg / Erzgeb. , Markersbach , Annaberg-Buchholz , Pöhlberg , Mauersberg , Großrückerswalde , Marienberg , Lauterbach , Zöblitz , Rübenau , Olbernhau , Seiffen , Sayda , Rechenberg-Bienenmühle , Rehefeld , Kahleberg , Altenberg , Lauenstein and Bad Gottleuba to Bahratal .
Between the Eastern Ore Mountains ( e.g. Rechenberg-Bienenmühle) and the Slovakian-Hungarian border (near Satoraljaujhely ), the E3 largely follows the route of the International Mountain Hiking Trail of the Eisenach-Budapest Friendship, established in 1983 .
The Hungarian section follows a larger section of the Alföldi Kéktúra between Satoraljaujhely and Nagykereki .
The Romanian section runs for 683 kilometers from Oradea via the Munții Apuseni and the Munții Banatului to Gura Văii and is currently being marked.
In Serbia, the tour between the Iron Gate and Dimitrovgrad can alternatively continue on the route of the E4 .
In Bulgaria, the trail leads as a marked mountain hiking trail Kom-Emine in a west-east direction from the Serbian border over the Schipka Pass and the Central Balkan National Park on the ridge of the Balkan Mountains .
So far there is no marking of the route from Cape Emine on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast to Istanbul in Turkey .
The route between Santiago de Compostela and Cape Emine has a total length of approximately 6950 km.
