Malý Horeš (until 1948 Slovak "Malý gyres", Hungarian Kisgéres ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 1,098 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Trebišov of, a circle kraj Košický heard. It is part of the traditional Zemplín landscape .

Seat of the municipal administration

The municipality is located in the southern part of the Eastern Slovak Lowlands in the Medzibodrožie (Hungarian Bodrogköz ) region, right on the Hungarian border. On the south side of the smaller elevation Kráľovské kopce, north-east of the village, there are vineyards. The center of the village is at an altitude of 103  m nm and is five kilometers from Kráľovský Chlmec and 55 kilometers from Trebišov (both road distances).

In addition to the main town Malý Horeš, the cadastral municipality Nový Horeš, which forms an exclave west of the place, also belongs to the municipality.

Neighboring municipalities are Kráľovský Chlmec in the north and north-east, Pribeník in the east, Lácacséke , Semjén and Kisrozvágy (all in Hungary) in the south, Veľký Horeš in the west and Svätuše in the north-west.

history

In today's municipality there was a settlement of the Ottomány culture of the older Bronze Age, a bronze find is dated to the younger Bronze Age.

The current place was first mentioned in writing in 1214 as Gures . In the 13th and 14th centuries the village was part of the dominion of the Zemplín Castle, whereas in 1403 it was owned by the Palóczy family and in 1419 by Imregh . In 1489 the property was divided between the Lelesz provost and the Perényi , Báthory , Daróczi and Károlyi families . In 1557 5½ porta were recorded in a tax register. In 1828 there were 153 houses and 1,131 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and winemakers.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. On the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was in Hungary again from 1938 to 1944.

According to the 2011 census, there were 1112 inhabitants in Malý Horeš, of which 1039 were Magyars and 60 Slovaks . 13 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

830 residents supported the Reformed Church, 126 residents the Jehovah's Witnesses, 85 residents the Roman Catholic Church, 34 residents the Greek Catholic Church and two residents the Evangelical Church AB 19 residents were non-denominational and 16 residents had no denomination .
