Cejkov (until 1927 Slovak "Cejkov" or "Cekov"; Hungarian Ceke ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,176 (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Trebišov , a circle of kraj Košický as well as for traditional landscape Zemplín belongs .

geography

The community is located in the south of the Eastern Slovak Lowlands at the clear transition to the small Zemplínske vrchy mountains . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 172  m nm and is 20 kilometers from Trebišov .

Neighboring municipalities are Zemplínske Jastrabie in the north, Brehov in the northeast, each briefly Oborín and Svätá Mária in the east, Zemplín and each briefly Ladmovce and Viničky in the south, Černochov in the south-west, Malá Tŕňa and Veľká Tŕňa in the west and Kašov in the north-west.

history

Cejkov was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1381 as Cheke , the place developed in the vicinity of Cejkov Castle , which had existed since the 13th century and was the center of a manor after 1407. The landowners changed relatively often: in 1507 the Soós and Kelecsényi families were owners. The castle was razed by an imperial army in 1673 after a Kuruc uprising . In 1828 there were 22 houses and 179 inhabitants who were employed in forestry, viticulture and coal-burning. Many residents took part in the East Slovak peasant uprising .

Until 1918, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. On the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was in Hungary again from 1938 to 1944.

According to the 2011 census, Cejkov had 1200 inhabitants, of which 1115 were Slovaks, nine Magyars, five Czechs, four Roma and one German. 66 residents gave no information in this regard. 793 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 199 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 60 residents to the Orthodox Church, 19 residents to the Reformed Church, four residents to the Evangelical Church AB, two residents to the Apostolic Church and one resident to the Jehovah's Witnesses; one resident professed a different denomination. 26 residents had no denomination and 95 residents had no denomination.
