Čičarovce (Hungarian Csicser ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 883 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Michalovce District of, part kraj Košický heard, and in the traditional landscape Zemplín lies.

geography

The municipality is located in the eastern part of the Eastern Slovak Lowlands , near the border with Ukraine , on the old Latorica river dike . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 101  m nm and is five kilometers from Veľké Kapušany and 31 kilometers from Michalovce .

Neighboring municipalities are Krišovská Liesková in the north, Veľké Kapušany in the northeast and east, Leles and Poľany in the south, Beša in the west and Vojany in the northwest.

history

Čičarovce was first mentioned in writing as Checher in 1263 . Until 1458 a toll was levied in the village. Later, Čičarovce was the seat of a domain that included Vojany, Ižkovce and Beša in addition to the town itself . Between the 15th and 19th centuries, some of the land belonged to the Oroszi family , among others , and the Csicsery family owned local estates in the 19th century . In 1828 there were 168 houses and 1,275 inhabitants who were employed as shepherds and farmers.

Until 1918/1919 the place in Ung County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. On the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again part of Hungary from 1938 to 1944.

According to the 2011 census, there were 891 inhabitants in Čičarovce, including 827 Magyars , 53 Slovaks , six Roma and one Czech . Four residents did not give any information about their ethnicity .

351 residents supported the Reformed Church, 290 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, 216 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and two residents to the Old Catholic Church. 23 residents had no denomination and the denomination of nine residents was not determined.
