Vysoká nad Uhom (until 1948 Slovak "Vysoká"; Hungarian Magasrév - until 1907 Viszoka ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 796 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Michalovce District of, part kraj Košický heard and in the traditional Zemplín landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the eastern part of the Eastern Slovak Lowlands on both banks of the Uh . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 109 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Veľké Kapušany and 23 kilometers from Michalovce .
Neighboring municipalities are Bežovce in the north and northeast, Lekárovce in the east, Bajany in the south and Pavlovce nad Uhom in the west.
history
Vysoká nad Uhom was first mentioned in writing in 1214 as Vyzaka and was owned by the Leles provost until the 20th century . In 1427, 30 portals were recorded according to a tax register. Because of the turmoil of war in the 17th century and the plague epidemic of 1709–1710, the population was reduced so that in 1715 there were only eight inhabited settlements. In 1828 there were 90 houses and 866 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and especially as vegetable growers.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Ung County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Major fires in 1936 and 1939 caused a lot of damage in the village. In the 1950s, Vysoká nad Uhom was electrified.
population
According to the 2011 census, Vysoká nad Uhom had 817 inhabitants, 803 of whom were Slovaks , five Ukrainians , four Magyars and one Czech . Three residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .
382 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 242 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 106 residents to the Reformed Church, 29 residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, 12 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, four residents to the Orthodox Church and three residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 11 residents were without a denomination and the denomination was not determined for 26 residents.
