Malčice (Hungarian Malca ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,524 (December 31, 2019) that the Michalovce District , part of the kraj Košický heard and in the traditional landscape Zemplín lies.

geography

The municipality is located in the middle of the eastern Slovak lowlands , on the western border of the municipality the Ondava flows south . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 120  m nm and is 25 kilometers from Michalovce .

Administratively, the municipality of Malčice is divided into the municipality parts Hradištská Moľva (from 1967, until 1949 part of Zemplínske Hradište) and Malčice.

Neighboring communities are Markovce in the north, Zemplínske Kopčany in the northeast, Malé Raškovce in the east, Veľké Raškovce in the southeast, very briefly Oborín and Petríkovce in the south, briefly Sirník and Hraň in the southwest and Zemplínske Hradište in the west.

history

The Malčice municipality was settled in the Paleolithic at the earliest.

The village itself was first mentioned in writing in 1274 as Malcha . At the same time, there was a castle here that was built shortly after the Mongol invasion and was demolished in the second half of the 15th century. After 1461 there was a constant change of landlords. After 1693, members of the Básty , Orosz , Stépán , Szinnyey , Szent-Léleky , Balog , Both and Szentivány families owned . In 1787 there were 74 houses and 691 inhabitants and in 1828 140 houses and 1,049 inhabitants who were employed as shepherds and barrel makers. In 1831 large parts of the population took part in the Eastern Slovak Peasant Uprising . At the beginning of the 20th century there was a cheese dairy and a steam saw.

Until 1918/1919 the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Malčice had 1,477 inhabitants, including 1,155 Slovaks, 57 Roma, five Czechs and one each Magyar, Pole, Russian and Ukrainian; one resident belonged to a different ethnic group. 255 residents gave no information in this regard. 993 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 81 residents to the Orthodox Church, 45 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 43 residents to the Reformed Church, eight residents to the Bahaitum, three residents to the Evangelical Church AB, two residents to the Old Catholic Church and one resident to the evangelistic church. 27 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 274 residents was not determined.
