Bracovce (Hungarian Beretto ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 935 (December 31, 2019) that the Michalovce District of, part kraj Košický heard, and in the traditional landscape Zemplín lies.

geography

The community is located in the middle of the Eastern Slovakian lowlands on the old river dike of the Ondava , which today flows about three kilometers past the place. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 105  m nm and is 22 kilometers away from Michalovce .

Neighboring municipalities are Kačanov in the north, Dúbravka in the northeast, Slavkovce and Zemplínske Kopčany in the east, Malčice in the south and Zemplínske Hradište in the west.

history

Bracovce was first mentioned in writing in 1227 as Berethe and was owned by several families of the lower nobility, such as B. Bogat-Radvan in 1240 or Amadé in 1280. In the course of the century there were several changes of ownership, for example the Monaky and Dobi families were landowners in the 14th as well as Izsépi , Cselei , Dobi , Ricsei , Beke , Orosz , Zádorházy , Lengyel , Nátafalusi , Csontoso , Perényi , Csupor and Csanády in the 15th century. Modern owners came from the Bornemissza , Drugeth , Kacinczy , Kozmay , Nagymihályi , Rákoczi and Tussay families, among others .

In 1582 the local families were taxed with a tax of five porta , in 1600 there were 12 inhabited houses in the village, but in the 17th century the inhabitants became impoverished and moved away, so that in 1715 there were only three inhabited, but also abandoned settlements. In 1787 the village had 36 houses and 375 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 50 houses and 398 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and fruit growers.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 960 people lived in Bracovce, of whom 870 were Slovaks , 16 Roma , four Czechs and one Pole and one Russian . 68 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

252 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 194 residents to the Orthodox Church, 166 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 125 residents to the Reformed Church, 62 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, five residents to the Brethren, two residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one resident to the Old Catholic Church. 30 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 123 residents was not determined.

Sports

The local football club is called OŠK Svornosť Bracovce, and the municipality also hosts a table tennis club.

Infrastructure and traffic

Bracovce has a well-developed basic infrastructure (water supply, gas supply) and operates a primary school and a kindergarten. The 2nd order road 554 connects the municipality with Oborín south and Trhovište (connection to the 1st order road 19 , E 50 / E 58) north of the village. The nearest rail connection is the Bánovce nad Ondavou station, four and a half kilometers away, on the Michaľany – Łupków railway line .
