Vrbnica (1948-1973 "Vrbnica" - to 1927 "Fišar"; Hungarian Füzesér ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,187 (December 31, 2019) that the Michalovce District of, part kraj Košický heard and in the traditional Zemplín landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the Eastern Slovak Lowlands, not far from the right bank of the Duša River. The center of the village is at an altitude of 106 m nm and is 10 kilometers by road from Michalovce .
Neighboring municipalities are Šamudovce in the north, Lastomír in the northeast, Žbince in the east, south and west and Laškovce in the northwest.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1330 as Fyzeser and first belonged to the estate of Großmichel, in 1338 the village became the property of the landed gentry. Over the centuries there have been frequent changes of landlords. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Füzesséry family owned local estates . In 1828 there were 49 houses and 368 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and shepherds.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
population
According to the 2011 census, Vrbnica had 931 inhabitants, including 614 Slovaks , 251 Roma , five Czechs and one Magyar . 60 inhabitants did not give any information on ethnicity .
585 residents supported the Orthodox Church, 199 residents the Roman Catholic Church, 46 residents the Greek Catholic Church, 16 residents the Evangelical Church AB, 12 residents the Jehovah's Witnesses and two residents the Reformed Church. Three residents had no denomination and 68 residents had no denomination.
