Falkušovce (Hungarian Falkus ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 657 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Michalovce District of, part kraj Košický heard, and in the traditional landscape Zemplín lies.

geography

The municipality is located in the middle of the East Slovakian lowlands in the catchment area of ​​the Ondava . The center of the village is at an altitude of 106  m nm and is 19 kilometers from Michalovce .

Neighboring municipalities are Bracovce in the north, Dúbravka in the east, Kačanov in the south and Trebišov in the west.

history

Falkušovce was first mentioned in writing in 1290 as Folkus and was owned by several families of the lower nobility. In 1600 the village had 15 portals . In 1828 there were 76 houses and 570 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture. Many residents took part in the East Slovak Peasant Uprising of 1831. In the 19th century, the families Kazinczy , Lobkovicz and other goods owned in the place.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

Today the inhabitants work as before in the agricultural sector, but also in industrial plants and in the service sector in Vojany , Michalovce, Strážske and other places.

population

According to the 2011 census, 681 people lived in Falkušovce, including 546 Slovaks, eight Ukrainians , three Russians , two Magyars , Roma and Czechs each and one Pole . 117 inhabitants did not provide any information on ethnicity .

203 residents supported the Orthodox Church, 159 residents the Greek Catholic Church, 143 residents the Roman Catholic Church, 12 residents the Reformed Church, 11 residents the Evangelical Church AB, four residents the Brethren Church and one resident the Baptists; two residents professed a different denomination. Eight residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 138 residents was not determined.
