Jastrabie pri Michalovciach (Slovak 1927–1960 "Jastrabie" - until 1927 "Jastrebie"; Hungarian Alsókánya - until 1907 Jesztreb ) is a place and a municipality in Okres Michalovce ( Košický kraj ) in the extreme east of Slovakia , with 284 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2019).
geography
The place is located in the eastern Slovak lowlands , 12 kilometers from Michalovce .
The name is the longest place name in Slovakia, with 25 characters without spaces (in Slovak, however, 23, since the “ch” counts as one letter).
history
Jastrabie was first mentioned in writing in 1448 and belonged to the nobles of Großmichel . Although it was a medium-sized village in the 15th century, the inhabitants left the village in the following centuries, so that in 1715 the settlement no longer existed. The place was not repopulated until 1720. In 1828 there were 51 houses and 408 inhabitants. As in the past, today Jastrabie is mostly an agricultural village.
