Zemplínska Široká is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 953 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Michalovce District of, part kraj Košický , heard, and in the traditional landscape Zemplín lies.

Seat of the municipal administration

The community is located in the middle of the East Slovakian lowlands in the Laborec catchment area . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 109  m nm and is nine kilometers from Michalovce .

Neighboring municipalities are Michalovce in the north, Čečehov in the northeast, Iňačovce in the east, Senné in the southeast, Palín in the south, Sliepkovce and Žbince in the southwest, and Lastomír in the west.

history

Greek Catholic Church and Cemetery

The present municipality was established in 1960 through the merger of the formerly independent villages Krášok (Hungarian Kráska ) and Rebrín (Hungarian Rebrény - until 1907 Rebrin ). First it was called Rebrín-Krášok , in 1961 it was given its current name.

Rebrin was first in 1266 in a document of Eger chapter as Rebren written records and was part of the dominion of Pavlovce . In 1427 there were four portals in the village . In 1828 there were 87 houses and 518 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.

Krášok was first mentioned in writing in 1572 as Kraska and was owned by the Szirmay family . In 1828 there were 51 houses and 371 inhabitants, mostly employed in agriculture.

Until 1918/1919 the places in Ung County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Zemplínska Široká had 963 inhabitants, including 857 Slovaks , 27 Roma , eight Russians , four Magyars , three Czechs and two Ukrainians . 62 residents gave no information on ethnicity .

295 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 282 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 140 residents to the Orthodox Church, 34 residents to the Reformed Church, 10 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, nine residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, three residents to the Pentecostal movement and two Seventh-day Adventist residents. 78 inhabitants were without religious affiliation and the denomination was not determined for 110 residents.
