Markovce (Hungarian Márk ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,030 (December 31, 2019) that the Michalovce District of, part kraj Košický heard, and in the traditional landscape Zemplín lies.
geography
The community is located in the middle of the Eastern Slovakian lowlands on the old river dike of the Ondava , which today flows about three kilometers past the place. The center of the village is at an altitude of 101 m nm and 22 kilometers from Michalovce .
Neighboring municipalities are Kačanov in the north, Dúbravka in the northeast, Slavkovce and Zemplínske Kopčany in the east, Malčice in the south and Zemplínske Hradište in the west.
history
Markovce was first mentioned in writing as Marky in 1281 and was owned by several families of the lower nobility, such as Izépy , Cseley , Doby and Ricsey in the 15th century and Orosz in the 18th century. In 1787 the village had 55 houses and 457 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 98 houses and 734 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 895 inhabitants lived in Markovce, of whom 721 were Slovaks , 19 Roma , seven Ukrainians , three Czechs and one each from Poland , Russia and Ukraine. 149 inhabitants did not provide any information on ethnicity .
481 residents professed their support for the Orthodox Church, 185 residents for the Roman Catholic Church, 36 residents for the Greek Catholic Church, 16 residents for the Reformed Church, two residents for the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident for the Evangelical Church AB 23 residents were non-denominational and with 151 inhabitants, the denomination was not determined.
