Bánovce nad Ondavou (to 1927 "Bánovce"; Hungarian Bánóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 724 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Michalovce District of, part kraj Košický heard, and in the traditional landscape Zemplín is .
geography
The municipality is located in the middle of the Eastern Slovak Lowlands on the southwestern edge of the Pozdišovská pahorkatina hill country . The Ondava flows on the western border of the municipality. The center of the village is at an altitude of 110 m nm and is twelve kilometers from Michalovce .
Neighboring municipalities are Trhovište in the north, Laškovce in the northeast, Žbince in the east, Ložín in the south, Bracovce and Trebišov in the southwest and Horovce in the west.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1329 in a document of the Erlauer chapter; a name passed down from 1342 is Banoch . Bánovce is connected to an older settlement called Kupona , which was directly on the Ondava. At the current location there was probably a farm, but the population moved here as the river repeatedly caused damage. The village was first owned by the Suty family , after 1405 Isépy , Cseley and Doby and Lobkovicz in the 20th century.
In 1787 the village had 80 houses and 687 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 106 houses and 798 inhabitants who lived from agriculture and growing vegetables.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Bánovce nad Ondavou had 706 inhabitants, 669 of whom were Slovaks, three Czechs, two Magyars and one Ukrainian. 31 residents gave no information in this regard. 369 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 131 residents to the Reformed Church, 65 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 49 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, twelve residents to the Orthodox Church and two residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses. 35 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 43 residents was not determined.
