Vojany (until 1948 in Slovak "Vajany"; in Hungarian Vaján ) is a municipality in southeastern Slovakia . It is located in the eastern Slovak lowlands on the Laborec River , 6 km from Veľké Kapušany and 26 km from Michalovce .
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1323.
Until 1918 it belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary in Ung County , then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia , but became part of Hungary again from 1938 to 1945 due to the First Vienna Arbitration . Since then, the municipality has been part of Czechoslovakia and, since 1993, Slovakia . The hard coal-fired power plants Vojany I and Vojany II are located near the village. There is also an alternative point for the broad-gauge Uzhhorod – Košice line on the municipal site .
