Andreas Grossbauer
Andreas Großbauer (* 1974 in Graz ) is an Austrian violinist . From September 2014 to September 2017 he was director of the Vienna Philharmonic .
Life
Andreas Großbauer received his first violin lessons at the age of five, and when he was twelve he was accepted at the Graz University of Music . He then studied with the Alfred Staar Vienna Philharmonic in Oberschützen and Vienna.
In May 2001, after winning the audition, he became first violinist with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra . He also became a member of the Philharmonia Schrammeln Vienna, to which he belonged for ten years. In September 2005 he was accepted into the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera , since 2008 he has been a member of the Association of the Vienna Philharmonic.
In the summer of 2007 he was elected to the position of head of the ball by the plenum of the Vienna Philharmonic and since then he has organized the annual Philharmonic Ball in the Vienna Musikverein building . On June 11, 2014 United Bauer was elected by the Assembly of the orchestra as the new chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic on September 1, 2014, he followed Clemens Hellberg in this function by. On September 1, 2017, Großbauer was replaced by Daniel Froschauer as director of the Vienna Philharmonic . In 2014/15 he was followed by tuba player Paul Halwax as organizer of the Philharmonic Ball.
His wife Maria Großbauer is Desirée Treichl-Stürgkh's successor and organizer of the Vienna Opera Ball and has been a member of the National Council since November 2017 .
