Stráne pod Tatrami (until 1948 in Slovak "Folvarky"; German Forberg or Vorberg , Hungarian Tátraalja - until 1907 Forberg ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 2629 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Kežmarok , a part of the Prešovský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the eastern part of the Podtatranská kotlina basin , more precisely in the lower part of Popradská kotlina by the Stránsky potok brook , under the High Tatras . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 700 m nm and is located six kilometers from Kežmarok .
history
Stráne pod Tatrami was first mentioned in writing in 1438 as Frowerk , but the local church is of older origin. In the Middle Ages the place was a suburb of the nearby town of Käsmark. After the Second World War, the majority of the German population was expelled and Slovaks and Roma came here from the surrounding areas.
