Brian Higgins (born October 6, 1959 in Buffalo , New York ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . Since 2005 he has been a member of the United States House of Representatives for the 27th and, from 2013, the 26th Congressional District of New York State . The district includes parts of Buffalo and all of Chautauqua County .

biography

Higgins was born in Buffalo where he still lives today. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Buffalo State College in 1984 . In the Buffalo Common Council (city council) he was from 1988 to 1993 representative of the southern district of Buffalo. He received his Master of Public Administration from Harvard University in 1996 . From 1999 until his election to the US House of Representatives, he represented New York's 145th District in the New York State Assembly .

As the successor to Jack Quinn Higgins was in the 2004 elections, elected legally just 50.3% of the vote in the House of Representatives. As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest legislative period runs until January 3, 2019. He is or was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Committee on Homeland Security and seven sub-committees. He was also a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Irish Affairs . He was previously a member of the Committee on Ways and Means and the Committee on Transport and Infrastructure. Higgins is also a member of several caucuses .
