William H. Lamport

William Henry Lamport (born May 27, 1811 in Brunswick , New York , † July 21, 1891 in Canandaigua , New York) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1875 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Henry Lamport was born in Rensselaer County a year before the outbreak of the British-American War . The family moved to Gorham , Ontario County in 1826 . He attended public schools there. Then he went to agricultural activities. He was a supervisor at Gorham in 1848 and 1849 . Between 1850 and 1853 he held the post as sheriff in Ontario County. He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1854 . In 1864 he moved to Canandaigua. He was President of the Village of Canandaigua in 1866 and 1867. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the congressional elections of 1870 for the 42nd Congress , Lamport was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 25th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded William H. Kelsey on March 4, 1871 . In 1872 he ran in the 26th constituency of New York for the 43rd Congress . After a successful election, he succeeded Milo Goodrich on March 4, 1873 . Since he on a run again in 1874 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1875 Congress of.

He returned to Canandaigua, where he died on July 21, 1891. His body was then interred in West Avenue Cemetery .
