Byram Green

Byram Green (born April 15, 1786 in East Windsor , Massachusetts , † October 18, 1865 in Sodus , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1843 and 1845 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Byram Green was born in Berkshire County about three years after the War of Independence ended . He attended public schools. He then graduated from Williams College , Williamstown in 1808 . In 1810 he worked as a professor at a college in Beaufort ( South Carolina ). He studied law , was admitted to the bar, and practiced. In 1814 he was a judge in the Wayne County District Court . During the British-American War he took part in the Battle of Sodus Point . He was a member of the New York State Assembly between 1816 and 1822 and the New York Senate in 1823 and 1824 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1842 congressional elections for the 28th Congress , Green was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded William M. Oliver on March 4, 1843 . He retired from the after March 3, 1845 Congress of.

Green died in Sodus about four months after the end of the civil war . His body was then interred in the Rural Cemetery .
