Ralph Waldo Gwinn (born March 29, 1884 in Noblesville , Indiana , † February 27, 1962 in Delray Beach , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1959 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ralph Waldo Gwinn attended public schools and the Preparatory School at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. He graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana in 1905 and from Columbia University's law school in New York City in 1908 . After receiving his license to practice bar in 1908, he began practicing in New York City. During World War I he served as Special Counsel to the War Shipping Board and as Special Representative to the Secretary of War in the European theater of war. Between 1920 and 1930 he was a member and president of the Bronxville Education Committee . During this time he went to Pawling in 1928 agricultural activities. He was from 1923 to 1962 trustee of DePauw University and from 1930 to 1962 at the Asheville School for Boys in Asheville ( North Carolina ). He was the author of numerous agricultural and religious educational articles. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1944 congressional election for the 79th Congress , Gwinn was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Jay Le Fevre on January 4, 1945 . He was re-elected six times in a row. Since he on a run again in 1958 renounced, he left the after January 3, 1959 Congress of.

After his time in Congress, he moved to his Ravenwood farm in Pawling. He died on February 27, 1962 in Delray Beach. His body was then buried in the cemetery of the same name in Pawling.
