Reports

Qualifying (Wednesday, July 31)

Mikko Hirvonen set the fastest time in qualifying for the Rally Finland. He started from 14th position on Thursday at his own request.

Day 1 (Thursday, August 1st)

Jari-Matti Latvala's home rally began unpleasantly . In the second special stage he got off the road and hit a stone. The driver and his copilot had made a makeshift repair of the car. After the fourth special stage, a broken rear wheel suspension was no longer an option. On Friday Latvala started again under the Rally2 regulations . During the first special stages Sébastien Ogier and Thierry Neuville fought a duel for tenths of a second and after three special stages the two were classified at the same time. Kris Meeke was brought in by the Citroën works team for the Finland Rally and he was immediately faster than the regular drivers Hirvonen and Sordo in the first special stages. In the afternoon the big rain came. The operation became more and more difficult for the drivers. Neuville drove flawlessly and passed Ogier. In third place was Mads Østberg , 8.9 seconds behind Neuville.

Day 2 (Friday, August 2nd)

Neuville could no longer keep up with the pace of Hirvonen, Ogier and Østberg. In the seventh special stage Østberg took the lead, with the best time in the eighth special stage Ogier took the lead from him again, Østberg countered in special stage 9. After 10 special stages, Østberg led Ogier and Hirvonen. Now Ogier showed his class. He won five special stages and in the evening also the show stage (2.06 km). In the afternoon Neuville overtook his Ford brand colleague again, but he is only 0.9 seconds ahead of Østberg in second place.

3rd day (Saturday, August 3rd)

With a lead of 31.5 seconds Ogier went into the last four special stages. Neuville won SS 17 and was ahead of Østberg, who won SS 19 and overtook him again. Sébastien Ogier drove towards an undisputed victory, behind which Østberg and Neuville fought for second place in a tenths of a second. Østberg had to avoid a large rock and lost a few seconds on Neuville. In the power stage , Ogier came second and also won 2 World Championship points and is getting closer and closer to the World Championship title. The Neuville Power Stage won, Jari-Matti Latvala secured one world championship point, who had to be content with 17th place.
