Preparations
On May 5, 2011, Volkswagen announced that it would be entering the WRC World Rally Championship for the 2013 season. At the same time, Volkswagen announced that it would be competing with a special model of the Volkswagen Polo V named Volkswagen Polo R WRC . The VW Polo R WRC was officially presented at the 2011 International Motor Show (see picture). In preparation for entering the WRC, two-time rally world champions Carlos Sainz and Dieter Depping completed test drives in the VW Polo R WRC near Trier at the beginning of November 2011 .
In addition, VW announced that it would compete with Jari-Matti Latvala / Miikka Anttila and Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassa for Volkswagen Motorsport and Andreas Mikkelsen / Mikko Markkula for Volkswagen Motorsport II.
WRC (since 2013)
2013
At the Rallye Monte Carlo , Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassa took a surprising second place behind World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb in a Citroën . A series of victories in the rallies in Sweden, Mexico and Portugal followed. The worst - and only place outside of the top 10 occupied Ogier / Ingrassa at the Rally Germany with 17th place. At the end of the season, Ogier achieved first place in the driving championship with 290 points and thus the world championship title.
Although Jari-Matti Latvala / Miikka Anttila did not cross the finish line at the first rally in Monte Carlo, the two nonetheless finished in the top 3. In addition to the retirement in Monte Carlo, Latvala / Anttila only landed outside the top 10 twice ( Rally Mexico , 16th place and Rally Finland , 17th place). In the end it was enough with 162 points to a 3rd place in the overall ranking.
2014
The 2014 season started as the 2013 season ended. Four VW victories in a row. The first, third and fourth rallies ( Monte Carlo , Mexico , Portugal ) were won by Sebastién Ogier / Julien Ingrassa, the second rally ( Sweden ) by Jari-Matti Latvala / Miikka Anttila. With the exception of the home rally in Germany, Volkswagen Motorsport had the winner in every round of the season and thus again secured the title in both the manufacturers 'and drivers' championships.
2015
With a triple podium Volkswagen Motorsport (II) started in the Monte Carlo Rally in the 2015 season . As in the previous two years, they dominated the World Rally Championship and were able to win their home game at Rally Germany for the first time in their third year in the WRC . After the Rally Portugal , the third triple podium of the season was achieved here. With the victory of the Rally Australia Sebastién Ogier successfully defended his title and became driver world champion for the third time in a row. The third constructors' title has also already been secured in Australia. In the penultimate race in Spain , Andreas Mikkelsen managed to clinch his first victory in the WRC with Volkswagen Motorsport II.
