Jost Capito (born September 29, 1958 in Neunkirchen / Siegerland ) is a German automobile manager. He is the head of Volkswagen R GmbH and Volkswagen Zubehör GmbH. He is married and has three children. He is the son of Karl-Friedrich Capito , with whom he as co-driver in 1985, the Dakar Rally as the first German on a Unimog U 1300 L won. His brother is Volker Capito , also a rally raid racing driver.

Professional career in motorsport

In 1985, Capito began developing high-performance engines at BMW Motorsport GmbH . From 1989 he took over at Dr. Ing.hc F. Porsche AG is in charge of the brand cups. From 1993 to 1996 Capito was head of motorsport organization in the same company. In 1996 he moved to Sauber Petronas Engineering AG as a member of the management team. He was a member until 2001. In the period from 1998 to 2001, he also took on the role of Chief Operating Officer at Red Bull Sauber Petronas AG. In the same year he switched to Ford of Europe where Capito was responsible for various areas until 2008. Until 2003 he was Director Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE), from 2003 to 2007 Director Motorsport and Performance Vehicles and in 2008 Vehicle Line Director Performance Vehicles. From 2009 to 2012, Capito was Director of Global Performance Vehicles and Motorsport Business Development at Ford Motor Company . From May 2012 he took over the responsibility as Director at Volkswagen Motorsport and in 2013 led the team to the world championship title in the driver and team championship of the WRC .

In January 2016, Capito became managing director of the racing department at McLaren Racing Ltd. In February 2017, however, the employment relationship was terminated. On June 1, 2017, Capito took over the management of Volkswagen R GmbH and Volkswagen Zubehör GmbH.

Sporting successes

From 1974 to 1981 Capito drove enduro and motocross races. During this time, he took first place in the German Junior Enduro Championship in 1975 and 1976. When participating in the Dakar Rally , he achieved second place in the service category in 1983 and won the truck category in 1985.
