A rally raid (or a marathon rally ) is a type of long-distance rally which, in contrast to traditional rallies, is not carried out on roads and slopes, but off-road. Not only cars (mostly off-road vehicles and buggies ) take part, but also motorcycles , off-road trucks and quads .

The most famous rally raids are the Dakar Rally and, since the Dakar rally moved to South America, the Africa Eco Race on the trail of the original Dakar Rally. Other well-known desert rallies are the Baja 1000 , the Silk Way Rally , the Tuareg Rally or the Egyptian Pharaohs Rally . Sometimes up to 700 kilometers per day have to be covered. The participants must be in good physical condition as they are exposed to high physical stress.
