Reports

FranceFrance Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassia (VW Polo R WRC)

Day 1 (Thursday, June 26th)

The Volkswagen duo Andreas Mikkelsen and Sébastien Ogier started the rally best. Juho Hänninen (Hyundai) set the fastest time in the second special stage. Mikkelsen drove to second place twice and was in the lead in the overall standings after SS 2. At the end of the day, a 2.5-kilometer Super Special was driven, which Ogier won. He stayed 2.8 seconds ahead of Mikkelsen and 4.2 seconds on Kris Meeke (Citroën) as the leader in the overall standings. Robert Kubica (Ford) rolled over at the home rally (SS 2), was able to continue and was classified in 12th place.

Day 2 (Friday, June 27th)

The duel between Sebastien Ogier and Andreas Mikkelsen continued on the second day. The lead changed six times on eight special stages between the Volkswagen drivers. The gap was never more than three seconds throughout the day. Just nine tenths of a second separated the two in the evening. Mads Østberg (Citroën) had moved up to third place and Jari-Matti Latvala (VW) improved from eighth to fourth place. The organizers had canceled the second run of special stages seven and eight in neighboring Lithuania due to safety concerns. In the run-up to the rally it had rained heavily, which made the forest gravel roads deep and there were too many spectators in dangerous places.

3rd day (Saturday, June 28th)

The defending champion Sébastien Ogier (VW) had won five of the ten special stages on the rally Saturday. Team mate Andreas Mikkelsen set two best times, but still lost around a minute to Ogier. After an accident by Mads Østberg (Citroën), Jari-Matti Latvala moved up to third place, he then fell back again because of a shock absorber damage in SS 19. After an analysis of the intermediate times, the rally commissioners got a time credit of 21 seconds decided in favor of Ogiers. This was stopped in the accident by Østberg. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) got through the day without any problems . He finished third overall on Saturday evening.

4th day (Sunday, June 29th)

Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen) won Poland's comeback in the World Rally Championship (WRC). Andreas Mikkelsen , who had fought a duel for the lead with Ogier on the first few days of the rally, had to pull out on Saturday due to braking problems. He brought home second place safely. In the battle for third place, Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) prevailed against Mikko Hirvonen (Ford) and Jari-Matti Latvala (Volkswagen). After a few incidents, Robert Kubica finished 20th in the overall ranking at his home rally.

Quote from Michel Nandan, Team Principal at Hyundai Motorsport: “It was a positive weekend for us. We have taken another step forward. That was important before Finland. I expect we'll be much closer to the guys in front of us in the last quarter of the season. "
