Rally Poland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rally Poland is a motorsport event that has been taking place in Poland since 1921 . It was already part of the World Rally Championship (WRC) in 1973 and 2009 and has been held regularly as a World Championship run since 2014. Before that, it was part of the European Rally Championship (ERC) for many years. The rally has been held on the Masurian Lake District in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship since 2005 .

history

Alongside the Monte Carlo Rally, the Poland Rally is one of the oldest rally events. In 1921 races were held on gravel roads. In 1926 and in the years 1931-1936, the rally did not take place due to the global economic crisis. In 1973 and 2009 the WRC ( World Rally Championship ) took place in Poland. In 2014 the premier class is back in Poland and replaces the Rally Greece . Achim Warmbold , with co-driver Jean Todt , won the WRC rally in 1973 and Mikko Hirvonen in 2009 .

Routing and conditions

The Rally Poland is mainly driven on gravel roads. The only night special stage over 2.5 kilometers will be particularly demanding. In 2014, four stages will be run in neighboring Lithuania for the first time . The "Super Special Stage" will be held under floodlights in the Mikołajki arena . On certain special stages, hard tires are required, while others are soft.

New route from 2015

Almost 90 percent of the route was changed for the 2015 Rally Poland compared to the previous year. There were no special stages in Lithuania like last year, the cross-border section of the route was canceled. We drove around Mikołajki , which is north of Warsaw in the Masurian Lake District. A special spectator-friendly stage in the arena on the edge of the service park followed. On Friday there were more than 160 special stages on the program, with the pilots having to do without service the entire day. The 39.12 km SS Staczyki, which was driven twice, was the longest in the history of the Rally Poland. On Saturday the special stages were closer to the rally base. There were three special stages each twice and one special stage once. There were three races in the Mikolajki Arena (Thursday, Friday, Saturday), and it was the only special stage that remained unchanged compared to the previous year. The rally ended on Sunday with two special stages in the immediate vicinity of Mikolajki. The fast parts of the track are reminiscent of the Finland Rally . The high growth of grass on the edge of the road made it difficult to see when approaching the curves. Hidden stones in the tall grass made cornering an added risk for drivers and cars. Soft tires were the first choice, but hard ones could also be chosen. The Rally Poland is a typical gravel rally. It was only held as a world championship run for the third time after 2009 and 2014 .
